Pickleball is a lot of fun! Pickleball is simple and fun. But what makes it so popular? There are many reasons to love it:
- This is a mix of the little bit of this and a little bit of that. Pickleball is for you if you are familiar with badminton, tennis, and ping pong. Pickleball is a combination of a few of these activities in one.
- This game is for all ages and skill levels. You can play this sport competitively or as a beginner.
- This is a social activity. Find a partner or get a group together to play doubles. Pickleball is a great way to have fun with friends.
- Indoor and outdoor play. We love our outdoor courts that offer stunning views of our beautiful property.
A BRIEF HISTORY
The USA Pickleball Association says it was created on Bainbridge Island by three dads in 1965 to provide something for their children to do during the summer. It is now very popular in the USA, Canada, as well as many European and Asian countries.
HOW TO PLAY PICKLEBALL
Pickleball can be played in doubles, with two players per team or singles. Both singles and doubles use the same sized playing area. The same rules apply to both singles as well as doubles. The rules are very simple, and you’ll be able to figure them out quickly once you get on to the courts.
PICKLEBALL TIPS
Pickleball is simple to learn and you can become a good pickleball player with some practice. The USA Pickleball Organization website is a great source of tips and tricks. Here are some of our favorites:
- Do not try to serve too hard or on the sidelines
- Keep in mind that the serve and the return serve must bounce before you can hit it. If you want to get the third shot, stay at the baseline.
- As soon as possible, get to the non-volley line. It is the strongest position
- You will be better able to hit the ball than the net if you face the player who hits the ball. You will be more likely to hit the ball.
- Your reaction time will be faster if you keep your paddle high and close to your chest.
- Power is not as important as placement; control the pace.
- You can take note of whether your opponent is left-handed or right-handed to avoid hitting the opponent’s weak side.
- Do not crowd your partner’s position and take away their chances
